Home Study Entry Requirements

As this is a Level 4 course, you would need to be educated to at least a standard of GCSE grade C but preferably to AS/A standard, or have at least 12 months’ experience working within the mental health services.

Recommended Hours of Study

We recommended you spend approximately 110 hours of your time studying for the Community, Mental Health and Psychiatry course. The pace of study is completely up to you. To give an example, if you dedicate 2 hours a week to the course it would take you a year to complete but if you could spare 4 hours a week you could complete it in six months.

Qualification

Qualifications

Upon completion of this course, you will receive a Level 4 NCFE Certificate in Community, Mental Health and Psychiatry.

Examination Centre

There is no exam as such, although you will be required to complete a series of tutor marked assignments. There is no word count for these assignments although you do have to prove to your tutor that you have fully understood the questions asked.

Awarding Body Information

NCFE is recognised as an awarding body by the qualification regulators ('regulators') for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The regulators are the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales and the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland

Assessment

This course is marked through a process of continuous assessment guided by your tutor following NCFE guidelines. This means that your qualification will be awarded according to your performance on assessments rather than by taking an exam.

Q: How do I send in my work?
A: You can post or email your assignments for marking. It is best to send your assignments one at a time so the tutor can mark one and give you the feedback.

Q: If I fail an assignment can I retake it?
A: Yes, your tutor will ask you to resubmit your assignment and give you some pointers as to where you could improve.

Q: What do I receive once I order the course?
A: We will send you ALL the course materials. You can start your studies straight away.

Q: Is there a time limit or any deadlines?
A: We do like you to complete the course within 12 months but we can extend this if you check with your tutor. If you allow 100 study hours, this will give you a good guide. There are no deadlines to meet.

Q: Is there a word count for my assignments?
A: No, there is no specific word count but you have to prove to the tutor that you have fully understood the questions. One sentence answers will not be accepted. Your tutor will send them back to you and ask you to re-do them.

Q: What if I don’t like the course? Can I send it back?
A: Yes, if you are not happy with the course and feel it is not for you, you can return it within 7 days as per the terms and conditions on our web site www.start-learning.co.uk.

Q: Is this course paper-based or on a CD Rom?
