What will the election hold for Education?

The next 30 days will be absolutely critical for deciding the future of the UK. Political analysts and journalists are covering every minute of the debate, but at Start Learning we are really interested in the differing policies of the three main parties when it comes to education.

Labour

·         School leavers should have basic literacy and numeracy skills

·         All schools should be refurbished

·         No School has less than 30% of students achieving five GCSEs

·         Giving a “guarantee” of a good education for all

·         Providing one on one tuition for those falling behind

Conservative

·         Raising the entry requirements for teacher training

·         Allowing good teachers to be paid more

·         Establishing a literacy check at 6

·         Reforming the National Curriculum

·         Funding new school places by letting parents, teachers, charities and private providers set up schools

Liberal Democrats

·         Providing schools with an extra £2.5 billion so they can cut class sizes

·         Encouraging good schools to take more children from deprived backgrounds

·         Scraping tuition fees for full and part-time students

·         Replacing the national curriculum with the more flexible minimum curriculum

·         Replacing  GCSEs and A Levels with a General Diploma
